Directions

The challenge will continue for 10 weeks visiting 10 countries. Each Monday morning a new cryptic clue will be posted to create some class discussion. Participants should leave a comment if they can guess the object. To avoid too may comments please don’t repeat someone elses guess.

The object (it may be a person, city, animal, etc) will then be revealed on Tuesday morning with your challenge for the week – this will be an element that needs to be incorporated into your IWB file along with information on the item of the week.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, your class needs to research and post a new unique qualified fact (eg “The Great Barrier Reef is 2000km long. Driving at 100kph it would take 20 hours to drive that far”) about the revealed item through the comment section of the blog post. This will create deeper understanding than simply quoting a fact.

Please identify your school when leaving comments as it would be great to see who’s involved.

You then create an IWB page about the item in question using the information in the blog comments.

Feel free to create other pages about the country we are visiting.

Submit any questions through the Teachers page.

To get ready, set up a flipchart, notebook or other IWB file and place a map of the world on the first page and lock it in as a background object. Add the title “Round the World Challenge” and lock it in position. Locking items prevents then from being accidentally moved when students are interacting with the board. As you will be plotting your course on this map it would not be a good idea for it to move.

If you are not sure how to do this then please ask around, we are trying to develop teacher skills as well. If you really are stuck with any aspect of the challenge then check the Teacher page for some helpful instructions.

You’re now ready to go!

Happy travels . . .
